Josh Rickert

Hello, my name is Josh Rickert. I attend Walled Lake Northern and am in the graduating class of 2009. I use a great variety of creative media to express myself, including music, writing, and, of course, the visual arts. The medium in which I do most of my visual work is computer graphics. However, I also do photography, drawing, painting, and printmaking among other things. Next year I plan to pursue the new Media Arts and Technology degree at Michigan State University.

Artist's Statement

As I moved to concentrate on a single theme, I found myself fascinated by the way that people are affected by technology and the media. I decided to focus on this idea, illustrating with visual symbolism how people in today's society are affected by the ever-evolving world of modern technology. One of my recurring themes is finding new beauty and detail in commonplace things that we take for granted every day. Another theme I have used is the symbolism of integrating people with technology and vice versa. I also combine radically different creative media, finding inspiration in music and writing while I simultaneously use those media to express my own ideas in conjunction with the visual imagery I create.
